Clean Energy State Campaigns

In 2018, NextGen America ran simultaneous clean energy campaigns across Nevada, Michigan, and Arizona — each pushing to dramatically raise renewable energy standards and prove that clean energy was a winning issue at the state level.

In Nevada, the initiative passed with nearly 60% of the vote — a decisive mandate that was signed into law the following year, setting the state on a path to 100% carbon-free energy by 2050.

In Michigan, the Clean Energy, Healthy Michigan initiative didn't reach the ballot but prompted major utilities DTE Energy and Consumers Energy to voluntarily commit to 50% clean energy goals.

In Arizona, Proposition 127 made the case that the sunniest state in the country — with over 300 days of sun and only 6% solar energy at the time — had no excuse not to lead.

The challenge was building a single template that could be produced and deployed quickly while still feeling distinct enough that each state site stood on its own. Different color palettes, typography treatments, and local photography give each site its own identity without revealing that they share the same bones underneath.
